About

Heather and Thistle Pipes and Drums is a non-profit educational pipe and drums band based out of Fargo, North Dakota.

Since 1992, Heather and Thistle have been sharing their love of Celtic music while performing at parades and events throughout the Red River Valley and beyond. Members of the band have come and gone throughout the years, however, the band currently features nearly 20 pipers and a half dozen drummers.

The band is led by Pipe Major Dan Aird, who learned how to play the instrument at the College of Piping in Glasgow, Scotland, under the tutelage of Seumas MacNeill. Dan has taught a countless number of beginning pipers throughout the region over the years, many of whom have decided to put on a kilt and join the band.

Heather and Thistle can be seen at a number of area events such as the Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans church services, the annual St. Andrew’s Society Dinner, Celtic Festival, Water Carnival, Waterama, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and cheering on the runners during the Fargo Marathon.
